If you are looking for a long haired cat that is strikingly beautiful with gorgeous blue eyes, easy care coat and sweet, affectionate personality, then the Birman is the breed for you. The Birman is a medium to large strong-boned, muscular semi-long haired cat. It is slightly longer in all its component parts than a Persian or Exotic Shorthair. It has medium-sized flared ears, almost round eyes, roman nose and rounded muzzle. It has Himalayan markings, but with white paws and gauntlets; both strongly defined. Males are generally larger than females.Birmans are born white, point colours on the mask legs and tail gradually developing over the following weeks and into adulthood, with the feet, gauntlets and body remaining white. The original colours of the Birman are the Seal and Blue but have increased to include Chocolate, Lilac, Red, Cream, Tortie, and Tabby, all colour points having blue eyes. Birmans as a breed are very easy to care for, although they have a semi-long haired coat, it does not matt and only needs a brush around once a week. They should be kept indoors and definitely not allowed to roam free as they do not posses the aggressive qualities to protect themselves if caught in a cat fight, apart from the threat of cars, dogs and the danger to native wildlife. They are very adaptable and will fit into a household with dogs, other pets and children with ease. ... There is only one thing better than owning one Birman and that is owning two. ![]() |
